North8 welcome applications for the role of TENOR, as well as deputy singers for all voice parts

About North8

North8 is formed of professional, postgraduate and undergraduate singers and conductors based in the north of England. Our aim is to create a space where we can develop our ensemble choral skills by exploring a broad range of choral repertoire and performing together in a semi-professional capacity, with voices either one or two to a part.

We rehearse once a month on a Sunday afternoon in Leeds (September-July), totalling just 9 rehearsals across the year. This schedule is designed to fit around the busy life of a musician with other commitments and enables some of our singers to travel from further afield. We hold three annual public concerts, as well as performing regularly in a professional capacity at weddings and other fee paying events.

North8 Choir is semi-professional: our singers attend fun, challenging monthly rehearsals and perform our concerts simply because it is our passion to sing together. However there are ever-growing opportunities for our singers to perform at additional paid events, such as weddings (ranging from £70-£120 per musician, depending on event).

A number of our singers have experience in choral conducting, so we often work collaboratively to suggest new repertoire to sing. North8 are regularly asked to provide vocal leaders to run singing workshops throughout the year; this work is advertised internally to our North8 singers and ranges from £70-£100 per rehearsal/workshop. As such, singers with an interest in choral leadership would have an advantage during the audition process. There is also the opportunity to arrange or compose music for the ensemble, if you are interested in doing so.

Would you like to sing with us?

We are looking for a Tenor to join us permanently from September 2020. In addition, we are always interested in hearing from experienced singers for deputy work in the North and in London. All singers invited to audition will have a high level of sight-reading and musicianship as well as previous experience of solo and ensemble singing. The Tenor will also be exceptionally reliable and able to commit to all of our rehearsals and concerts for a minimum of 1 year.

If you are keen to develop as an ensemble singer and would like to meet others from in and around Leeds with a similar passion, we would love to hear from you!

To request an audition, or enquire about our rehearsal schedule, please email with a short paragraph detailing your performance experience. Please express an interest in auditioning before the end of August 2020. Deputy opportunities may be available before this date, so auditions are ongoing from now until September 2020. Auditions are informal and will be held in Leeds on a variety of dates between now and September 2020.
